Need of a code of conduct

GDC Kilam believes that the Code of Conduct ensures a safe and productive learning environment for the student community establishes college policies that define behavioral standards for all students and provides a conducive environment for an effective teaching learning process. The college aims to guide student learning on appropriate behavior, civility, and ethical decision making. Being adults, we envision our students to grow as a disciplined community of learners where students govern themselves in a manner that ensures the safety and integrity of the college environment. We also envision a knowledgeable community of learners where students are aware of their rights and responsibilities as defined in the Code of Student Conduct.

PROHIBITED CONDUCT

GDC Kilam envisions a fair conduct and a good behaviour from its students. The College management has listed the below mentioned acts/ behaviors in the prohibited list, hence any violation or breach on part of any of the student admitted in the college, shall be dealt with severity. Stern action shall be carried out against the student/s found responsible for committing, attempting to commit, or assisting in the commission of any of the following prohibited forms of conduct.

  1. Acts of dishonesty: Any act can be regarded as an Act of Dishonesty that includes but is not limited to: a. Furnishing false or misleading information to any college official, faculty member or office, including the use of another’s identification card or information, or allowing his identification card or information to be used by others. b. Forgery, alteration or misuse of any college document, record, form, or instrument of identification. c. Alteration or sabotage of another student's work, such as tampering with laboratory experiments.
  2. Physical/Verbal Abuse: Any act that threatens or endangers the health or safety of any student/staff, including but not limited to, physical abuse, verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, coercion, and the like. Indulgence in Ragging and harassing the students in or outside the college.
  3. Sexual Harassment/ Violence: GDC Kilam believes that equality and freedom are the twin foundational stones for building up a productive society or nation. Any discrimination, violation, deviation from this basic principle of justice can ruin the future of any society.  The college is committed to establishing and maintaining a community rich in equality and free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. The College seeks to create an environment in which the greatest academic potential of students and professional potential of employees may be realized. In order to create and maintain such an environment, the College recognizes that all who work and learn
at the College are responsible for ensuring that the community is free from discrimination based on sex or gender, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc. The College strongly believes that these behaviors threaten our learning, living, and work environments and hence intolerable.

Sexual harassment shall include any unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors, or any misconduct of a sexual nature.  The College prohibits all forms of sexual harassment and violence.

  1. Theft/Damage/Possession of and/or to college property or property of a college community member, or possessing stolen property.
  2. Violation of any college policy, including policies stated in course syllabi and/or policies related to areas of campus (e.g., Library Code of Conduct).
  3. Gambling in any form.
  4. Drugs and narcotics: Use, possession, manufacturing or distribution of any controlled substance, drug, or other chemical substance except as expressly permitted by law, or possession of drug paraphernalia. GDC Kilam has declared its campus as smoking free. So Smoking and vaping is prohibited in the campus.
  5. Misuse of Mobile devices: Unauthorized use of cellular phones and other personal electronic devices in all instructional areas including all labs and classrooms during instructional sessions, the library, and the Testing Center, is strictly prohibited. Further, misuse of mobile devices for the purpose of illegal photographing, videotaping, or recording of individuals against their will or knowledge.
